Enjoy the Ruta 40 experience!!
ROUTE 40
During the high season (November to April) you can enjoy the famous Route 40
from Calafate to Bariloche and vice versa.
SOUTH TO NORTH
The trip takes 2 days, travelling around 12/14 hours per day.
Day 1) Calafate/Chalten - Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos
Departures in odd numbered days from the bus station in Calafate at 8.00 hs
or from Rancho Grande in Chalten at 8.30 hs, arriving in Perito Moreno at
about 9 pm (Los Antiguos 10 pm).
Accomodation in Perito Moreno
Day 2) Perito Moreno - Bariloche
Departures in even numbered days from Hotel Belgrano in Perito Moreno at
about 8 pm arriving in Bariloche at about 9 pm.
NORTH TO SOUTH
The trip takes 3 days, travelling around 12/14 hours per day.
Day 1) Bariloche - Perito Moreno
Departures in odd numbered days from the Moreno street 100. The departures
are at about 6.45 am, arriving in Perito Moreno at about 9 pm.

Day 2) Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos - Chalten
Departures in even numbered days from Hotel Belgrano at about 8 am, arriving
in El Chalten at about 9 pm.
Día 3) Chalten - Calafate
FROM NORTH TO SOUTH
North to South: Bariloche- Perito Moreno- El Calafate – Departures odd numbered days.
From November 15, 2007 until April 2008
1°Day: Depart in bus from the Bariloche center at 6:45, arriving at Perito Moreno at 21.00. Stay at Hotel Belgrano.
2° Day: Breakfast. Travel to the Estancia Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands Ranch), formerly Los Toldos 67 km from Perito Moreno. Leave from the Ranch for a journey in a 4x4 to the Cañadón del Río Pinturas (Painted River Canyon) (18 km). Along the way you can observe varied fauna, pumas, guanacos, ñandúes, foxes, condors, eagles and flamingos, among others. Upon arriving at the canyon, the group makes a 2.000 meter trek (medium difficulty) ascending and descending to arrive at their cave. Once there, we will take a one and a half hour guided tour of different caves and eaves, observing a wide variety of cave paintings that date back 10,000 years. Stay at the Estancia Cueva de las Manos.
3° Day: Excursion to Charcamata
Breakfast. Leave the ranch in a 4x4. After passing through 30 km of nature we observe majestic canyons and the contrast between the green valley and the mountains. Arriving at the entrance to Cañadón Charcamata (Charcamata Canyon), you begin an easy trek (1.75 km) to the eaves, a natural rock roof 85 mts wide by 27 mts high y 40 mts deep, in whose interior walls are found distinctive forms of cave paintings. The trip includes a guide and lunch. Stay at the Estancia Cueva de las Manos.
4°Day: Bus Perito Moreno-El Chalten
Breakfast. Leave from The Estancia at 11.00 hs to El Chalten. It will be a 12-hour trip, traveling the mythical Ruta 40. Strategic stops are made to take pictures of the beautiful scenery we will pass through. Stay at Rancho Grande. End of trip.
FROM SOUTH TO NORTH
El Calafate-Perito Moreno-Bariloche –Departs odd numbered days.
From November 15th, 2007 to April 2008
1° Day: Depart in bus from El Calafate (Terminal) at 8:00 am. From El Chalten (Rancho Grande) at 8:30 am to the Estancia Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands Ranch) formerly Los Toldos (67 km before the town of Perito Moreno). It will be a 12-hour trip, traveling the mythical Ruta 40. Strategic stops are made to take pictures of the beautiful scenery we will pass through. We stay the night at the Estancia Cueva de las Manos, enjoying the starry sky of Patagonia.

In the afternoon we travel to the town of Perito Moreno. We stay at the Hotel Belgrano.
4° Day: Breakfast. Leave Hotel Belgrano for Bariloche, Arriving at 21.30. End of trip.
Torres del Paine

Full day Paine
Entrance Fee to the National Park is not included in the price of the excursion. * Lunch Box includes: 1 soft drink – mineral water 1 ham and cheese sandwich 1 cereal bar 1 packet of biscuits Guided tour: English-Spanish
This excursion allows you to discover the Park through the different paths that surrounds this area of mountains.
Departure from El Calafate: 5.50 am (pick-up from the passenger’s hotel, if it is located within 3 km. Other pick-up points: bus stops or Chalten Travel office in El Calafate).
Arrival at Frontera: 9.30 am. Once documents are presented and checked at Customs, the group will take a break in the town of Cerro Castillo. There you will have the chance to exchange money, if necessary, have breakfast or just rest for a while.
From here will be back on the road, on the way to Lago Sarmiento. We will make a stop on the Lake so as to take pictures and enjoy the stunning landscape.
Then, Laguna Amarga will be the next spot to visit. Entrance fee to Torres del Paine National Park is to be paid at this point.
Next we will go to Lago Nordenskjoldm; from this point, there is a magnificent view of the “Horns” and the scenery.
After that we will visit the Cascada de Salto Grande (waterfall), followed by treeking
Finally we will go to Glaciar Grey arriving at 3 pm aprox. Where you will be provided with a box lunch to have lunch and contemplate the Glaciar Grey with the imponent ice floes which resulted from its iceslides.
At 3.40 pm we will return. Already on the way back, we will pass by the following spots: National Park Administration (4.15 pm), Pudeto (4.30 pm), Hosteria Pehor (4.45 pm) Laguna Amarga (5 pm), Cerro Castillo (6 pm)
You will be back in Calafate at 11 pm aprox.
